Founders with Talent

ESITC Caen is a leading engineering Grande Ecole created in 1993 by the Paris School of Civil Engineering, Construction and Industry (ESTP), civil engineering organisations and local councils.

Since its creation in 2001, ESITC Caen has demonstrated its uniqueness.

Inauguration 1993-1994: From the outset, under the leadership of Director Hélène Grimault-Duc, the school emphasised research and forged strong ties with professionals in the civil engineering sector.

1995 – 1998: The school developed its teaching and enhanced its programmes.  Student organisations flourished, including a student-run micro-enterprise and the first Construction Forum was held.

In 1996, a first ESITC Caen student went abroad to complete a Master’s degree, and ESITC Caen's first class graduated. An exceptional number of these graduates received job offers before graduation.

In July 2001, the French government recognised ESITC Caen for its excellent tuition as well as for its international outlook, its promotion of research and the quality of jobs held by its graduates.

2001 – 2010: ESITC Caen rapidly expanded its potential.

Since 2001, the school has continued to develop.
It has:

  • Updated its curriculum to comply with European standards
  • Established an apprenticeship programme for a portion of its engineering students (2002)
  • Begun supporting corporate research
  • Opened its engineering programme to students coming from Special Maths background (2004)
  • Created new “career” courses (2004)
  • Become a member of the Union of Independent Grandes Ecoles (UGEI) (Union des Grandes Ecoles Indépendantes),
  • Signed agreements with SYNTEC, a professional organization for engineers, and SERCE, an association of electrical engineering companies (2005)
  • Added a Master’s programme in European Construction
  • Provided engineering tuition support in West African schools (2006)
  • Added numerous customised programmes to its curriculum, ranging from engineering projects to entrepreneurship
  • Joined the Environment and Development Virtual University (Université virtuelle environnement et développement).

ESITC Caen enjoys an excellent reputation among professionals and its peer institutions:

The French Commission for Engineering Degrees (CTI), an independent accreditation organisation, renewed the accreditation of ESITC Caen’s degrees (for a maximum of 6 years) and authorised use of the international EUR-ACE label on its diplomas.
ESITC Caen is an active member of the Conference of Grandes Ecoles (CGE), an association of elite business and engineering schools, and the Conference of Deans of French Schools of Engineering and Universities of Technology (CDEFI).

2010: ESITC Caen Rises to New Challenges

Creation of a dual degree programme in civil engineering: A partnership agreement signed with the INSA engineering school in Rouen steps up ESITC Caen's involvement in INSA's new civil engineering department and lays the groundwork for a new international Master's degree in civil engineering.

Participation in the European  SETARMS project: As part of a European programme that aims to find solutions for the development and sustainable management of marine sediment, ESITC Caen is leading the “Leveraging Marine Sediments in Road Construction” project team. ESITC Caen has invested 1 million Euros in the project, of the total 5 million Euros provided by the European Union, the Lower Normandy region and ESITC Caen.  The SETARMS project was selected as part of the European cross-border cooperation INTERREG IV-A France (Manche) – England programme, and co-financed by the FEDER.
