Equipment for Partner Institutions

In addition to the facilities and equipment available for students’ public works projects (strength of materials, soil mechanics, materials, hydraulics, physics…), ESITC-Caen’s research laboratories have high-quality equipment in the construction materials sector.

Considering the multidisciplinary nature of ESITC-Caen’s research programmes, the school works closely with laboratories in Caen, including ERPCB and CNRT Matériaux.  These laboratories bring skills and technical capabilities that complement those of ESITC-Caen, resulting in a comprehensive research programme on the different aspects of formulation, physical chemistry, microstructure and mechanical and thermal performance.

The main facilities of LRMC allow for:
Mechanical and geotechnical characterization of cement materials and soil:  Mechanical and geotechnical characterization of cement materials and soil: Compression machine (Schenck 300T), test stand for bending and bucking (Controlab 160 kN), traction machine (Lloyd LR 30K), 3 oedometric machines, triaxial apparatus, shearing machine.  Basic equipment for soil classification according to the GTR (granulometry, compaction, CBR press, methylene blue test…).

Geotechnical and physical identification of soil/sediment:  basic equipment for soil classification according to the GTR (granulometry, compaction, CBR press, methylene blue test, Los-Angeles, Micro-Deval, density…).  3 oedimetric machines, triaxial apparatus and shearing machine.

Oedometre Cisaillement

Formulation/production of concretes and classification of properties of cement materials: mortar mixers, jolting apparatus, cement mixer, slump cone,  concrete and mortar workability meters, compression machine (Schenck 300T), test stand for bending and buckling (Controlab 160 kN), traction machine (Lloyd LR 30K).

Formulation/production of treated soil and sediments and characterization of properties: Disaggregation mixer, equipment to test a soil’s aptitude for treatment, static compression test machine (Controlab 160 kN), indirect traction machine 30 KN (Lloyd LR 30K).



Microstructure analysis: Scanning electron microscope (JEOL 5300 LV), optical microscopes (Olympus B061).
